The Appenzell Inn, an Estes Park Hotel

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

The Appenzell Inn, Estes Park is one of the finer Hotels Estes Park has to offer.  Our architecture is Swiss inspired to reflect the heritage of the owners and to compliment the Alpine view of Rocky Mountain National Park.  You will find well optioned rooms with 9 different styles, beautifully landscaped grounds with paths, ponds and picnic area, a soon to be opened café and bar for your convenience and pleasure, and a staff that knows how to smile and take care of any concerns.

The rooms at this Estes Park hotel are not your typical motel room but something more.  We have a basic Guest Room with a single Queen bed but we also include a twin Murphy, micro-wave, refrigerator, coffee maker, CD and VCR player, ironing board, tile bath with marble vanity, brass and chrome fixtures, natural pine trim, quilted bed spreads, and on. A King bed, two-person jetted tub, and fireplace highlight the other rooms and suites and that’s just for starters.

The Appenzell Inn employs its own gardener to take care of the extensively landscaped grounds and flower boxes.  What self-respecting Swiss styled Estes Park Inn would be complete without flower boxes on the deck rails, yards, and picnic area?  Every year we improve the variety of trees surrounding our buildings and two ponds with water features.  We also have a 6 foot cedar fence around the entire property with automatic gates to keep out the Elk and Deer, (which we love, but they tend to eat everything we plant), and also control unregistered guests.

For Estes Park Hotels, you can’t go wrong choosing The Appenzell Inn, Estes Park, offering quality and value in a beautiful setting overlooking the majestic mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Fine hotels Estes Park equals The Appenzell Inn

While searching hotels Estes Park, you will find a great variety of architectural styles, locations, floor plans, and of course, rates.  How do you make your choice?

We at The Appenzell know that you have a limited budget so of course the room rate is going to be a major concern.  A vacation is one of the most memorable parts of your life, so you should be looking for value, not just price when choosing your Estes Park Hotel.

The Appenzell Inn is not going to suit everyone but we believe that this Estes Park Hotel offers good value at a competitive price.

We at The Appenzell Inn don’t make claims that mean little or are exaggerations; we want our guests to be pleasantly surprised, not rudely disappointed.  One thing you can do is check Trip Advisor, (although now that they are selling rooms for profit, you need to keep their advice in perspective), for guest commentary on our Estes Park Inn.  Mostly we get great reviews with a few exceptions that we think point out our strengths.  We run a tight ship at The Appenzell; our guests appreciate that we enforce our policies concerning noise, smoking, pets, and unruly behavior. Our rooms are clean and well maintained because we take care of them and because our guests do not abuse them.

The Appenzell Inn Estes Park should be on your short list when choosing your Estes Park Inn.  We look forward to your call or e-mail or you can go directly to on-line booking.

Beautiful Downtown Estes Park

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Downtown Estes Park is a wonderful place to spend some quality time and is easily reached from The Appenzell Inn via the Estes Park trails or by a short drive to the convenient parking.

Varied Estes Park Shopping can be found along the Riverwalks and on Elkhorn and Moraine Avenues.  Many of the shops will have local crafts and art work which makes window shopping great fun.

Estes Park Movies can be seen in Downtown Estes Park at the Park Theater or just East at the Reel Theater.

Many Estes Park events are held in Downtown Estes Park at several venues and there are plenty of places to sit and relax and do a little people watching; which is another Estes Park attraction.

Estes Park Events

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Estes Park Events can enhance your stay in Estes Park and they are scheduled throughout the year, but mostly in the summer months and are a part of Estes Park attractions.

Stanley Park is within Estes Park and is continually being modernized to better accommodate the many Horse Shows and our Annual Rooftop Rodeo.  Several other shows featuring other animals such as Alpacas, Llamas, and dogs plus model railroading and crafts are featured as well.

New Grandstands are currently being erected for use in the summer of 2010 and will complement the newer exhibit barns and the upcoming Multi-purpose arena scheduled for 2011.

Another venue for Estes Park events, Performance Park, can be found at the West end of Downtown Estes Park. It’s a new covered stage with lawn seating along the Fall River where musical groups perform all summer.  You will find other small groups performing along the Riverwalk at Confluence Park, (where the Fall and Big Thompson Rivers meet), and at Barlow Plaza on the East end of Downtown Estes Park.
Bond Park is another popular venue for Estes Park attractions including Craft and Car Shows and musical entertainment around a campfire on many nights.
Several times a year there are sporting events such as a Fishing Derby in the spring where people enjoy the Estes Park fishing and have a contest for biggest trout.

The Estes Park trails are also used to host several races including a marathon and the Frost Giant 5K winter race.

Fall and winter bring several festivals like the Elk Fest and October Fest and the best of them all, The Scottish-Irish Highland Festival the weekend after Labor Day.  Our Christmas Parade on Friday after Thanksgiving also draws huge crowds for a festive fun time.

Also in the winter you will find sled dog pulls, snow shoeing, and the stores are still open for Estes Park Shopping.

Estes Park Trails from the Appenzell Inn

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Estes Park trails lead from The Appenzell Inn in several directions for Estes Park Fishing and to Downtown Estes Park for Estes Park Shopping and other Estes Park Attractions.

We have found that when our guests arrive for a longer stay from a lower altitude, one of the best ways to acclimate is to take a short walk on one of the Estes Park trails.  It’s amazing the number of birds you will see while strolling along Lake Estes and the Big Thompson River.  You might also see Elk or Deer and on occasion a Coyote will be out looking for a tasty mouse or rabbit.

From late August through October you will be treated daily to several dozen Elk engaging in their age-old mating rituals in several locations along the Estes Park trails.  One of the easiest to reach is the 9-hole Golf Course which is between The Appenzell Inn and Lake Estes. Being within a hundred feet of a bugling elk will raise the hair on your neck and give you plenty of memories to share when you get home.

If you’ve brought your bicycle or intend to rent one, the Estes Park trails are open to your riding except for a short stretch through Downtown Estes Park.  You will see mile markings on the Estes Park Trails because they are used for several running races through the year.

Another Estes Park attraction is that the Estes Park Trails will take you to the Riverwalk which extends along the Big Thompson and Fall Rivers through Downtown Estes Park where you can enjoy great Estes Park Shopping and other Estes Park Events.

Estes Park Movies from The Appenzell Inn

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

One of the Estes Park Attractions you can find almost anywhere is movie theaters, but what’s different here is a lower price than you would find elsewhere and also a historic theater.  The Park Theater is the oldest continuously running theater in Colorado with some of the original equipment and fixtures on display.

The movies are first run and there are three screens at The Reel Theater plus the one at the Park Theater.

From The Appenzell you can walk to the Reel Theater or take a short drive to Downtown Estes Park for the Park Theater and maybe a little Estes Park Shopping.

The best in Estes Park Fishing is close by The Appenzell Inn

Do you fish?  Would you like to learn?  Estes Park Fishing includes world class fly fishing along several miles of the catch and release restricted Big Thompson River.  We’ve had more than one of our guests spend a good portion of their time fishing these waters and even on those days when the fish are finicky, they say it was still one of their best days, ever.

For those that like to sit and wait there’s plenty of trout in Lake Estes just waiting for a fat worm or lure.  You can stop by the Lake Estes Marina and pick up your license and supplies, and maybe rent a small boat.  The kids love it!

And when you’re Hiking Rocky Mountain National Park, or just Estes Park Hiking, take some fishing gear along; even some of the smallest streams can be hiding a large trout.

Last year my son, grandson, and I were treated to an all-day guided fly fishing trip into the park.  We were fitted with excellent waders, rods, and flies and at noon we had a fine lunch along a small stream.  The goal for the day was to improve our casting skills and water reading abilities and if at all possible catch all four of the trout species found in the Park; Brown, Rainbow, Brook, and the rare Rocky Mountain Cutthroat.  We succeeded on all counts with my grandson catching the “Grand Slam.” What a sense of pride to watch your 12 year old grandson take control of a fly rod and swish, swish, plop, put a fly right where he was instructed.  And don’t leave the girls at home; my granddaughters are younger but they still can cast with great accuracy and success; they don’t like sitting and waiting on a worm, and it’s more fun than standing in line at Disneyland.

Ask us at The Appenzell Inn which Estes Park Trails to take fishing and which Estes Park Trails will take you to other Estes Park Attractions and Family Fun.
